Mindfulness Practice

May 2011 – I’ve taken interest in studying Buddhism and meditation practice through the Shambhala lineage.  One of the unique and attractive things about Shambhala is its special focus on art.  Reading Chogyam Trungpa’s book, True Perception, marked a turning point in my relationship to music and sound production.  It helped me integrate the spiritual and mental aspects of myself with the creative, which ultimately broke down some of the barriers I had put up between my art and the rest of my life.  In a sense, I feel more integrated.

The artistic process is a vehicle for practicing mindfulness through meditation in action.

On a somewhat related note, enjoy these words from John Cage on sound.  Absolutely brilliant – he captures the essence of emptiness in this short video.
